Don't wait, start upgrading your SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 instances today!

Microsoft ends extended support for SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 on July 9, 2019. Based on the inventory of data from our current customers, a little over 60% of them still run SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 database servers! Don’t let your infrastructure and applications go unprotected. We’re here to help you migrate to current versions for greater security, performance, and innovation.

Our own Prabhat Varma got together with Buck Woody from Microsoft, to talk about why you should consider upgrading SQL Server 2008. Check out our video playlist below highlighting the three key reasons which include:

  • SQL Server BI & Analytics – Built for the Future with Machine Learning Services, Power BI, and Microsoft Azure integration
  • SQL Server Cost Savings – Discussing solutions and pathways to significantly lower the costs of running SQL Server
  • SQL Server Security – While 2008 and 2008 R2 were very secure, we discuss potential risks and the benefits of upgrading.

Getting Started

Running on older versions of SQL Server comes at a cost of supportability and over licensing. Moreover, you will be missing out on the latest built-in SQL Server features for performance and security. This is why the SQL Server upgrade and modernization projects are really important for your organization.

You may want to take advantage of the latest or at least supported versions of SQL Server. Having a programmatic approach to upgrading your applications and databases is critical to keeping your business running. At DB Best Technologies, we have a 12-step approach for upgrade projects based on our proven Migration Methodology.

The easiest way to get engaged is to perform analysis/assessment of the existing applications (including databases, software, hardware, etc.) and come up with a roadmap on how to modernize these applications in a fast, cost-effective, and reliable way. We’ve used our modernization methodology and automated tools (internal and third-party) combined with our manual efforts and best practices to deliver hundreds of successful projects to customers worldwide.

Upgrade destinations

Upgrading your legacy SQL Server databases doesn’t always means just increasing the version number. You can start using your SQL Server workloads from a clean sheet after the upgrade. For example, you can opt for increasing the performance, reducing operational costs, or even changing the platform where your SQL Server databases run. Consider upgrading your SQL Server databases to the Azure cloud or switching to the open-source Linux platform to run your secondary replicas. Or you can even take advantage of powerful DataON Windows Server Hyper-Converged Infrastructure solutions.
